MODULE SUPPLEMENT: ENDOCRINE SYSTEM Endocrine Pancreas
The final endocrine system to be discussed in this module is the endocrine pancreas, which is essential to glucose homeostasis. The pancreas secretes a number of different substances including: Insulin (from Beta cells) and Glucagon (from Alpha cells) which both exert major actions on carbohydrate metabolism; Somatostatin (from Delta cells) and Pancreatic polypeptide (from F or D1 cells) which both modulate the secretion of insulin and glucagon.
