MODULE SUPPLEMENT: ENDOCRINE SYSTEM
Summary Case and Evaluation Questions

Mr. Jackson, an 86 year old former wrestler, comes to the clinic complaining of fatigue and memory problems. He notes that this has been coming on over about 6 months and that about a month ago he started taking some medication over the internet that is suppose to contain growth hormone because he felt it would give him back his energy. He also acknowledges that he's been under a great deal of stress lately because of his wife's health. His past medical history includes:

• Hypertension for which he takes hydrochlorothiazide
• Type 2 diabetes mellitus for which he takes glucophage (metformin) and glipizide

Test results indicate that Mr. Jackson is hypothyroid.

The following questions relate to Mr. Jackson based on an understanding of the endocrine changes that occur normally with age.
