Non-Specific Summary

So far we've noted that the non-specific is especially important in that it's ready to go--there is no time delay in its response! However, there are a number of known or suggested alterations in the first lines of defense that can predispose the older adult to various pathological processes. That is, if changes occur in this first line of defense, it is much more likely that a foreign substance, or something that is "not-me" will breach the protective barrier and challenge the overall system.
